In the mid 1990s I was laid off from my position as a Sales Engineer at a leading technology company. The US economy was in recession and I spent months trying to find a new engineering position.
A friend’s company sold Ginsu knives at special events needed someone to work the home and garden show circuit for the summer. She knew I was between jobs and offered me the position. I accepted, happy to have work—any work.
