The following social events will be held at the conference.
Guests are not only allowed to attend, they are encouraged!
Sunday: No trip to New Orleans would be complete without visiting Frenchmen Street, home of the best jazz clubs in the city.
Meet at 8 pm at Mag’s 940 bar (940 Elysian Fields Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117) for hosted food, cocktails, and a New Orleans drag show. The cast will include Varla Jean Merman performing her not-to-be missed Schoolhouse Rock parody! See the video:
The show will run from approximately 9 pm to 10 pm. After, we will walk two blocks to the Frenchmen Street Art Mart (619 Frenchmen St, New Orleans, LA 70116), then visit neighboring Frenchmen Street jazz clubs.
Note: Frenchmen Street is about a 20-minute walk from the conference hotels, or about a $7 cab ride.
As when in any large city, please walk in groups. Safety first!
Monday: Ready to get your Mardi Gras on? Wear your walking shoes because the Praline Brass Band will lead a parade from the conference to our Monday night networking reception sponsored by our exclusive Diamond Sponsor Adobe Systems.
The band will begin playing Monday after the last keynote session (around 5:30 pm), and at 6 pm you will be the stars of a second-line jazz parade through the French Quarter, complete with with kazoos, parasols, and a police escort to lead the way! See the video:
The venue for the network reception is the Bourbon Heat Night Club, 711 Bourbon St, New Orleans, LA 70116
The reception menu will include:
- Shrimp Cocktail
- Bayou Bonfouca Shrimp over Creole Cream Pasta
- Chicken Wings (BBQ, Cajun, Lemon Pepper)
- Crawfish Empanadas
- Mini Alligator Cakes
- Vegetable Spring Rolls
- Chips, Salsa, and Guacamole
If you would prefer a more traditional fare, full service dinner will be available downstairs at the Courtyard Bar and Grill.
After you’ve had a chance to eat and network, we’ll kick off our annual karaoke night sponsored by Sapphire Sponsor WebWorks. Merriment will be made!
Tuesday and Wednesday: On Tuesday we will have a network reception in the Astor Grand Ballroom from 5:15-6:30pm, and we will close the conference on Wednesday 4:30-5:30pm with few rounds of Tech Comm Trivia!
Most nights also include an after-hours Tweet-Up. Follow the hashtag #LavaCon on Twitter to see where we are and where to meet us next!
Any Special Needs?
The jazz parade route will run approximately 10 blocks, from the Astor hotel to the reception venue. If you’d prefer not to walk that distance for any reason, let me know and I will arrange for pedicabs to be part of our parade.
You will, however, be required to throw beads to the waving crowds!
See you in New Orleans!
