Content Couture: What Slow Fashion Can Teach Us About Content

Content-based organizations are still moving from book mindset (long, unwieldy content chunks) to digital mindset (small, manageable chunks). How do you structure legacy content to meet evolving user need? We’ll look at this issue through the lens of fashion:

Basics: Like black pants, the purpose of some content doesn’t change. Don’t replace all content that doesn’t bring joy with the latest fads.
Versatility: Why not embrace the capsule wardrobe principle of only buying colors and styles you can mix and match with your current clothes? Curate content with a similar mindset.
Occasion: You wouldn’t wear heels in a race or sandals in the rain. When you dress, you consider weather, comfort, social norms, and practicality. Similarly, your content should fit user need, user context, and business needs.
Organization: Once you’ve identified your goals, how do you get there? Consider best practices for refactoring legacy content, adding new content, and managing for optimal delivery.
