October in New Orleans

by Jack Molisani, Executive Director, LavaCon 2009

Louisiana is home to over 100 music, food and film festivals—and the week of Halloween is probably the third best time to visit New Orleans (behind Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest). The weather is great and the city is alive with music, food and fun!

For example, the New Orleans Healing Center is hosting thier First Annual Anba Dlo Halloween Extravaganza on Friday, October 31.

Anba Dlo is Kréyol for "Under the Waters." It refers to the realm of departed souls. On All Hallows Eve, the day of remembrance for the departed, we call these souls forth.

In New Orleans, this name has special resonance; the city has been called up from Under the Waters to rise, rebuild and heal.

This Halloween, the place to be is the heart of the burgeoning St Claude Avenue Arts District! This festival has been selected as an official Louisiana Passport Event of the World Cultural Economic Forum.

Halloween is a great time to visit New Orleans!

First is the Krewe of Boo Halloween Parade, which rolls on Saturday, October 24th, the evening after our Community Service Day and pre-conference boot camp on How to Win Government Contracts!

This is an official Mardi Gras-like parade, complete with "throws"!
